Dr. Higgin joined PharmaDirections in 2004 and focuses on applying her background in chemistry and biochemistry to support all facets of non-clinical drug development. She is a technical project manager and one of our key scientists who perform in silico calculations to predict drug disposition and absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. Prior to joining PharmaDirections, Dr. Higgin was employed by several large and smaller biotechnology and contract research organizations including Talecris Biotherapeutics (then Bayer Corporation), Catalent Pharma Solutions (then Magellan), Applied Analytical Industries, and Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute. In those roles, Michelle developed and validated countless different methods for both large and small molecules. She completed her post-doctoral studies at the NIH National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences under the direction of Perry Blackshear. Prior to that, she received her Ph.D from University of Wisconsin under the direction of Laura Kiessling where she determined the elusive chemical mechanism of an important enzyme involved in tuberculosis pathology and was the recipient of several NIH and university awards.
